Two ECS teachers were recently awards with Lilly Endowment Grants through the Endowment's Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program: Jim McClain from Pierre Moran Middle School and Carly Martin from West Side Middle School. This program supports teachers who are pursuing imaginative projects outside of school, primarily during summer break, and strives to encourage teachers to engage and motivate their students even more effectively using these personal experiences. McClain's project is called "Solution Squad: An Educational Comics Revolution" and seeks to create and digitally publish a comic book story that teaches math featuring math-based superheroes. Martin's project is called "Lewis and Clark Unplugged: Ditching the Digital World" and explores the Lewis and Clark trail without GPS, mobile phones or the internet.
Congratulations to both teachers and good luck with your projects!
