West Side Middle School currently participates in a school wide reading achievement program.  It is the AR or Accelerated Reader program.  This programs allows students to read a book, visit the library, and take a brief comprehension quiz over what they have read.  This a great way for students to gain confidence about what they are reading without the pressures of a class or a grade.  To encourage our students we run a yearly contest based on points students can earn.  The library offers several incentives and prizes to all our students who participate in the AR program

Welcome to the AR

Lexile Readway!

Students can hit the track with a green light in their own race machine!  This year they can join West Side's favorite driver SPEED READER in this year's AR Lexile Readway Reading contest.

Here's how:

1. Visit the Library and check out any book of interest with an AR blue dot.

2. READ the book.

3. Visit the library and take a simple AR quiz.

Points are given for quizzes and records are kept in the students reading record.  Once a student  accumulates 25 points they'll get the green flag.  It will be a race to the finish.  Point winners are invited to several special fun activities throughout the year, and are eligible to receive reading prizes.

 This Year

Cora Spondent from station WEREAD will be our very own trackside reporter keeping us updated on Speed Reader's track progress.  Who will win this year's race?  Will it be a Wildcat?  Or Will Speed Reader's dastardly opponent Miss Spelled take the checkered flag?

And remember: If you don't read- you can't race!
