Teenage Parent Program (TAPP)
The Teenage Parent Program (TAPP) supports Elkhart Community Schools students who are pregnant or parenting by providing access to prenatal services and high-quality child care. The program helps students stay in school, earn academic credit, and graduate on time. TAPP is open to any ECS student who is pregnant or has a child.Established in 1976 with support from the Eli Lilly Foundation, the program continues to provide critical resources to help young parents succeed in both school and life.
What does TAPP offer?
- Uninterrupted education and academic credit for school-aged parents
- Assistance in obtaining medical care for both the pregnant student and child
- Instruction in prenatal care, child development, interpersonal relationships, and adult roles and responsibilities
- On-site child care for infants and toddlers ages 2 weeks to 30 months
Child Care Center
- Infants are cared for in a nurturing environment that promotes developmental growth through age-appropriate activities
- Toddlers participate in daily activities designed to support cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development
Accreditation
- TAPP is a state-licensed child care center
- Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
- Designated as a Level 4 Paths to QUALITY™ (PTQ) child care provider
