Bullying Prevention
Elkhart Community Schools strives to be a bully-free zone, providing students with a comfortable and safe learning environment. The district uses the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program to teach students appropriate behavior in school hallways, classrooms, playgrounds, lunchrooms, and other areas where students congregate. Our students are also taught appropriate ways to respond to a bully and how to help a classmate that is being bullied.

Olweus Bullying Prevention Program
Elkhart Community Schools has used the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program for 10 years. Olweus is a comprehensive approach that includes schoolwide, classroom, individual, and community components. The program is focused on long-term change that creates a safe and positive school climate where bullying is not acceptable.
All Elkhart students are taught the four anti-bullying rules:
- We will not bully others.
- We will try to help students who are bullied.
- We will try to include students who are left out.
- If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
