Elkhart High School Unified Track Team Wins State Title For Second Year In A Row

For the second year in a row, the Elkhart Lions Unified Track team has placed first in state competition. The team, which allows students with and without disabilities to collectively compete, topped the Penn High School Kingsmen by 4 points with a score of 123.

“What an outstanding achievement for our Unified Track athletes,” says Elkhart Athletics director Brian Buckley. “We had several students who were on both championship teams, which is very exciting. This season’s new athletes raised the bar of excellence for the team, and we couldn’t be more proud.

This is the third time Elkhart Community Schools has won state in Unified Track (the team from the former Elkhart Memorial High School won in 2018). EHS’s program is one of just 3 Unified Track teams state-wide to have won multiple state titles. Coach Todd Sheely has led all of these teams to victory.

“I am very proud of this group of individuals who came together as a team.. We told them all year that no one person will get a medal.  We will either all get one or we won't,” says Coach Sheely. “Unified activities are such an important part of education based athletics and our student athletes are at the forefront of the Inclusion Revolution.”

Elkhart Community Schools would like to invite the community to the Unified Track homecoming celebration this coming Monday, June 16, at 6PM at the Freshman Division.
