Purple Star
Students from military-connected families are an important part of Elkhart Community Schools. They bring unique strengths and experiences, and we are committed to ensuring they feel supported, included, and ready to succeed.
The Indiana Purple Star School Designation honors schools that show a strong commitment to military-connected students and their families, as well as to service members and veterans. This recognition is awarded by the Indiana Department of Education and remains valid for a three-year period.
Our Commitment
Elkhart Community Schools proudly meets the criteria established by the Indiana Department of Education for Purple Star designation. This includes:
- A designated Point of Contact who has completed state-required training to support military-connected students and families.
- A dedicated webpage providing resources and recognition for military families.
- Annual events to honor service members and veterans (such as Veterans Day programs).
- A public display recognizing service members, veterans, and military-connected students and families.
- A School Board resolution in support of military-connected families.
- Guaranteed interviews for qualified active-duty service members, veterans, and their immediate family members for open positions within the district.
