COVID-19 Policies for 2022-2023

The following guidelines are in place at all ECS schools:

Symptomatic Individual

  • A student or staff member who has a fever or symptoms of COVID-19 should stay home. This individual may return to school when they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

  • If a student or staff member has symptoms of COVID-19, they are encouraged to get tested. PCR, antigen or home tests are acceptable.

  • Parents/guardians of symptomatic students should contact their school nurse or call the district's COVID-19 phone line: 574-262-5999.
  • Symptomatic staff members should contact the COVID-19 phone line: 574-262-5999.
Positive Test Result
  • A student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate at home for 5 days from the date of the positive test. The student or staff member may return after 5 days as long as symptoms are improving and they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. On days 6-10, this individual should wear a mask at all times. If they are not able to wear a mask on days 6-10, they will need to stay home during that time.
  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate at home and will receive assignments through the district’s learning management systems (Seesaw/Canvas) throughout their absence.
  • Parents/guardians of students who test positive should contact their school nurse or call the district's COVID-19 phone line: 574-262-5999.
  • Staff members who test positive should contact the COVID-19 phone line: 574-262-5999.
Close Contacts
  • Schools are no longer required to contract trace or require quarantine for close contacts.
Other
  • Masking is optional in all buildings and at all events.
  • No masking required on bus transportation.
  • As with any illness, please keep your child home if they have symptoms of an illness.
  • A negative test or doctor’s note is no longer required to return to school.

Las siguientes pautas tomarán lugar en todas las escuelas de la comunidad de Elkhart.

Individuales con síntomas
  • Un estudiante y empleado/a que tenga una fiebre o síntomas de COVID-19 deberá quedarse en casa. Tal persona podrá regresar a la escuela cuando no tenga fiebre en las últimas 24 horas (sin usar medicamentos que bajan la fiebre).
  • Si un estudiante o empleado/a llegara a tener síntomas de COVID-19, se les recomendará que ellos se hagan una prueba. Las pruebas que son aceptables son las pruebas virales (PCR y antígeno y de casa).
  • Los padres/tutores con estudiantes con síntomas deberán contactarse con la enfermera de la escuela o llamar a la línea telefónica de COVID-19 del distrito: 574-262-5999.
  • Empleados/as con síntomas deberán contactarse con la línea telefónica de COVID-19 del distrito: 574-262-5999.
Resultado positivo de una prueba
  • Un estudiante o empleado/a que obtenga resultados positivos para COVID-19 tendrá que aislarse  en casa por 5 días desde los resultados de la prueba positiva. Tal persona podrá regresar a la escuela cuando no tenga fiebre en las últimas 24 horas (sin usar medicamentos que bajan la fiebre) y los síntomas estén mejorando. Para días 6-10, esta persona deberá usar un cubrebocas todo el tiempo. Si es que esta persona no puede usar un cubrebocas para días 6-10, tendrá que quedarse en casa durante estos días. 
  • Los estudiantes con resultados positivos de COVID-19 tendrán que quedarse en casa y recibirán sus tareas por el sistema de aprendizaje del distrito (Seesaw/Canvas) mientras que estén ausentes.
  • Los padres/tutores con estudiantes con una prueba positiva  deberán contactarse con la enfermera de la escuela o llamar a la línea telefónica de COVID-19 del distrito: 574-262-5999.
  • Empleados/as con una prueba positiva  deberán contactarse con la línea telefónica de COVID-19 del distrito: 574-262-5999.
Contacto cercano
  • Las escuelas ya no serán requeridas en investigar los contactos cercanos y/o requerir que estas  personas se queden en casa. 
Otros
  • El uso de cubrebocas será opcional en todos los edificios y los eventos.
  • No se les pedirá el uso de cubrebocas en los autobuses escolares.
  • Como con cualquier enfermedad, favor de no mandar a su hijo/a a la escuela si es que están enfermos.
  • Una prueba negativa o comprobante del doctor ya no será necesario para entregar a la escuela.
