What is Elkhart Virtual School (EVS)?
Elkhart Community Schools is launching Elkhart Virtual School (EVS) in the 2026–2027 school year. EVS is a tuition-free virtual learning option for students in grades 6–12, designed to provide another pathway for student success aligned with the Elkhart Promise.
Is EVS an alternative school?
No. EVS is not an alternative—it is another opportunity for students to learn in a flexible, high-quality environment while staying fully connected to Elkhart Community Schools.
How does learning work in EVS?
EVS uses an asynchronous learning model, meaning students complete coursework on a flexible schedule. While learning is self-paced, students still receive support from certified, Indiana-licensed teachers who monitor progress and provide regular guidance.
What courses are available?
Students have access to more than 400 courses, including core subjects, electives, career and technical education, world languages, and advanced coursework. All courses are fully accredited and NCAA-approved.
What do students need at home?
Students will be provided an iPad for learning. Reliable internet access is required. Students are expected to stay engaged, meet participation expectations, and commit to at least one full semester in the program.
Is there an orientation?
Yes. All students and families participate in a required orientation to review expectations, technology requirements, and how to be successful in an online learning environment.
Who is EVS a good fit for?
EVS is designed for students who want to move ahead academically, balance school with work or family responsibilities, or benefit from a more flexible learning environment.
Will students still be part of ECS?
Yes. Students remain fully connected to Elkhart Community Schools and are always part of the ECS family. Students may participate in school clubs and activities with approval, but are not eligible for IHSAA athletics.
How do families apply?
Students must be Indiana residents and meet all enrollment criteria for the program. Registration is now open. Applications will be reviewed and families notified upon acceptance.
Why EVS?
At its core, EVS is about meeting students where they are and helping them succeed on their own path. That is the Elkhart Promise in action.
